The next GNU Classpath developer meeting will be during Fosdem 2005 in Brussels, Belgium, on Saturday and Sunday 26 and 27 of February.

The Future -- Technical Planning Session

This will take place on Sunday from 14:00 till 17:00. It will be a 3 hour session for hackers will consist of:

• A general part explaining what is needed.
• Splitting up in groups to discuss specific topics to solve the problems and make development plans.
• A short present by each group about the ideas discussed.

Please suggest topics for discussion here.

• How to speed up libgcj's build system (split libraries? eliminate libtool?) (see: http://gcc.gnu.org/ml/java-patches/2005-q1/msg00230.html)

• How eliminate GNU Classpath <-> libgcj merging (see: http://gcc.gnu.org/ml/java/2005-02/msg00145.html)

• What services should developer.classpath.org offer? (autobuilders, regression testers, documentation scripts, etc.)
• Priority list for new development over the next 6 months to 1 year
• Release cycle for gcc and libgcj
• How tools should be deployed; as part of GNU Classpath or as separate tools
• What are the holes in our platform/runtime interface and how should we fix those.

  • Is there consensus about using the gnu.classpath.RawData[32|64] classes?

• How could we solve the problem of having 3 different character encoding frameworks (Classpath's java.io based, libgcj's and java.nio).

Friday evening some of us will meet in Cafe de BXL on the Grand Place. We will be there at least from 18:00 till 20:00 and can probably eat there. If not, then the Grand Place has lots of other restaurants. Call Mark (+31-6-51877169) if you cannot find us on Friday night.
