This announcement might be exciting news for some.

IcedTea is basically a OpenJDK/GNU Classpath hybrid that can be used
to bootstrap OpenJDK using only Free Software. You will need the latest
gcj & ecj versions (Fedora 7 has them, but build instructions for other
GNU/Linux distros more than welcome of course) to play with it.

We agreed to host it at http://icedtea.classpath.org/ because it is
such a valuable effort for the whole libre java community.  But
IcedTea isn't an official GNU Classpath effort. Participants are
encouraged to push all their changes upstream into classpath
and openjdk.  It is basically a staging area for people to play with
till all legal and technical issues of merging the code bases have
been worked out.
